Geographer T. Orthmayr made the
first geological and natural research and exploration in 1872.
He, and
later researchers, found archeological artifacts from
the Mousterian Culture over 15, 000 years ago, that
are on
display in the Banater Museum in Timisoara and the Museum of
Natural History in Lugej. |
| On October 11, 1984, Romania had a unique and beautiful
cultural event - the first symphonic concert in
a cave. Three
hundred and sixty visitors entered into the cave-hall lighted
with candles, lamps, projectors
to hear the symphony. |

Conductor Marius Tanasescu led the Timisoara Conservatory
“Ion Vidu” in Mozart’s Symphony 24 and Haydn’s Concert for
Violoncello in D Major with guest cello player Alexandra Gutu.
After the overwhelming success of the concert, another was
scheduled for the following year and more last twenty years
thereafter, thanks to Mr. Lupu Constantin, members of "Speotimis"
Association and Romanian cultural authorities.
The concert, usually occurring in October, featured the
symphonic works of W.A. Mozart, D. Sostacovici, B. Marcello, A.
Vivaldi and G. Enexcu performed by " The Banat Philharmonic "
from Timisoara, The State Philharmonic from Arad, Music
University Symphonic Orchestra from Timisoara and the Orchestra
of "Ion Vidu"
High School. Among the enumerated orchestras, soloists,
conductors have contributed to the success of these concerts.
Performers, guests, and organizers carrying instruments and
equipment must walk one hour from Romanesti village to the cave.
Horse carts carry the heavy electrical equipment.
Each year there has been a new different cancellation and
occasionally new Romanian Postal Stationary. These would make a
nice addition to any music, cave, or bat collection and exhibit.
