Many, many note's have been collected for this over the years. But there are also some fantastic references for maybe even more As 'History of Cave Science' by Trevor R. Shaw (ISBN 0646125036). Than there is range of books by W.R. ('Bill') Halliday with a lot of historic names. Franco Urbani supplied a long time ago a host of Venezuelan names, as did Elery Hamilton-Smith for Australia.

 
 

CODAZZI, Agustin (1859 - ?). Explorer, geographer, visited Cueva del Guacharo, his description was widely reprinted and maybe more known than the one by v. Humboldt. Venezuela, 1960, 5c - 70c. SSC # 25

JEFFERSON, Thomas. Wrote 'Notes on the State of Virginia', in which spelean saltpeter is discussed. Made also the first known cave map of the U.S. - Madison's Cave near Grottoes, Virginia (after W. R. Halliday - Depths of the Earth, 1976). About Jefferson' s as U.S. president many publications are available.
