This is a Cuban stamp with a
face value of 20 cents, emitted in 1986 in the series "Latin-American
history". It represents a seated anthropomorphic figure known as "El
hombre sobre el duho" (28.8 x 16.5 x 20.6 cm). Was found in a cave near
Santo Domingo, state of Trujillo. The figure is of the Santa Ana style
(200- 400 A.D.). Belongs to the collection of the Sciences Museum of
Caracas.

During 1989 under a treaty with UPAE, the
Venezuelan postal service emitted two stamps under the series" America",
which represent prehispanic pottery from Venezuela. The
first of such stamps with a face value of 6 Bs. is a vessel called "Bol de
las serpientes" (Serpents Bowl) (21.5 x 26 cm). It was found near the
border of the states of Barinas and Trujillo. Most of these type of
figures in many cases have been found by "huaqueros" (treasure hunters) in
caves and rock shelters 50 the exact locations is usually not known.
Belongs to the private collection Massula and Harry
Mannil.

The second stamp with a face value of 24 Bs. shows
an anthropomorphic figure, the largest known from Venezuela (58 x 20.4
cm), it is known as "El hombre del collar" (The man with the necklace). It
was found near Cabimbú, Niquitao, state of
Trujillo and probably is of the Betijoque style (300 - 100 A.D.). It
belongs to the Mannil collection. Here applies the same comment of
probably been from a speleoarcheological site is valid. As an example in
1%8 excavations in Cueva de la Leona, produced similar
pottery.
