 Rock Art Philately from Venezuela

As a part of the commemoration of the 500 anniversary of the discovery of American  Venezuela issued the commemorative stamp (November 1992). It is not a official stamp but as every year it is emitted by the Venezuelan Antituberculosis Society and sold in all Venezuelan post offices. The stamp shows one petroglyph (prehispanic anthropomorphic image) from Vigirima.

Vigirima is the largest assemblage of petroghyphs from Venezuela with about 165 rocks with a total of around 445 images. It is located in the Piedras Pintadas site, Vigirima, near Guacara, State of Carabobo.

Petroglyph from San José
 

A petroglyph appear in the cancellation of the first day covers of the stamp series titled "Our aborigines". Appeared on 25 November 1993 with 4(xx) official FDC emitted. The image represents a prehispanic anthropomorphic image from a rock located near the town of San José, Petit District, State of Falcón.
